SEASON 2022 SUMMARY

20 Nov 2022 by Western Port FC

Please see the below from our 2022 Annual General Meeting and Awards Presentation.

I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we meet, locally the Bunurong People, and pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. I would like to read an excellent quote from Football Victoria that they sent to all Clubs which succinctly sums up the last couple of years…

“It’s no question that the last two years have provided challenges we’ve never faced before. The resilience and commitment shown from all throughout the season, allowed the game to play on no matter what. Without the hard work and dedication constantly displayed by Club administrators, volunteers, coaches, players and parents, our game simply wouldn’t go ahead.”

So, this year we were back in the business of providing a safe, competitive and accepting Football Club, supporting local kids that want to play the beautiful game on this side of the Peninsula. I think we did this very well, albeit with reduced player numbers and corresponding teams. With Covid for the most part over, I can see a very bright future for the Wolves and expect registration numbers next year to be similar to those in 2019.

There will be several changes to the Committee going forward into 2023 as Vanessa Sheriff, secretary, and myself are not seeking re-election. Vanessa has been at the Wolves for eight years and has served as a general committee member and as secretary. She has been invaluable over this time looking after general club secretary duties as well as stepping in to run the Canteen, purchasing and organizing kits, purchasing and organizing trophies, raising financial reports and registering players and teams with Bayside Football Association and Football Victoria. We wish her well.

I hope to run again, more successfully, in next year’s Council elections for Cerberus Ward to get some traction on issues concerning our Western Port side of the Peninsula that Mornington ignore. This would include drainage, lighting and Facility upgrades at Graham Myers Reserve and take back High St also for Western Port FC to allow for its growth. So, I hope I can assist the Wolves in the future.

I have really enjoyed the challenges that the President role has involved, although the stop start nature of the two Covid years did take their toll. Thanks go out to the Committee, Coaches and Parents for their loyalty to a small community Club like the Wolves and a special thank you to Sammy, Jessica and Will for managing at home when I was at the Club. I leave the Club in a strong financial position with great people involved in it.

Please support the new Committee with as much vigour as you have showed me over the years. I thank you for your help and support.
